BRISBANE: Australia women’s cricket team defeated Pakistan by 8 wickets on the Duckworth-Lewis Method (with 67 balls remaining) in the first one-day international (ODI) of three-match series at the Allan Border Field in Brisbane on Monday.

Phoebe Litchfield who scored 78 off 88 balls for the hosts was named Player of the Match. The 19-year-old was dominant from the beginning as she remained not out at the end of the play in her ODI debut that was affected by the weather.

Pakistan to work harder to clinch ODI series

With today’s loss, it has become harder for the Bismah Maroof-led Pakistan women’s side to fulfil their goal of the first-ever series win against Australia.

The visitors were unable to perform well in the first one-day international despite entering the series in good form after winning five of their six games in the ICC Women’s Championship. The Green Shirts earlier beat Sri Lanka by 2-1 in June last year and later whitewashed Ireland 3-0 in November.

The three-match ODI series will be followed by three Twenty20 Internationals (T20Is) which will be played from January 24 to 29 in Sydney, Hobart and Canberra. Before their Australia tour, Pakistan women’s team held practice camps in Lahore and Karachi where they also played in various intra-squad matches.

Australia hold the top spot in the ICC Women’s ODI rankings while Pakistan are ninth on the list.
