LONDON: Australia, the UK and Canada have asked government of Israel to reverse a decision to approve new settlements in the West Bank, adding they are “deeply concerned” by current wave of violence, Western media reported on Friday.

Australia, UK, Canada call on Israel to reverse decision on new settlements units

Reuters reported that in the current week, Israeli government approved more than 5,700 new settlement units in the West Bank. Western media reported that Israel earlier in the current month introduced changes to the settlement approval procedure which enable immediate approval of construction.

In a joint statement, the ministers for foreign affairs of Australia, the UK and Canada said, “The constant extension of settlements is a hindrance to peace and also negatively impacts efforts to attain a two-state solution. We call on Israel to reverse the decision,”.

Violence has been surging in the region, including deadly clashes, attacks on Palestinian houses and villages by settlers.
