SINGAPORE: An Australia bound flight operated by Singapore budget carrier Scoot was brought back in escort of fighter jets because of a bomb threat on Thursday, the airline in a statement said.
The Scoot flight TR16 to Perth departed from Singapore at 4:11 pm (0811 GMT).
Scoot, the subsidy of Singapore Airlines in the statement said a precautionary decision was made to turn the aircraft back to Singapore due to a bomb threat after an hour of flight.
The airline went on to say that the Republic of Singapore Air Force (RSAF) was directed to escort the passenger aircraft back to Changi Airport of Singapore. The emergency services were also called on the airport.
According the Scoot the flight safely landed about two hours after takeoff, and security checks were carried out.
The airline in the statement said it was assisting authorities with investigations, adding that it was unable to provide additional details because of the sensitivity of the matter.
A 30-year-old passenger told local newspaper that police escorted two individuals off the plane after it landed safely. Later the pilot then announced the bomb threat, saying it could be a hoax.
