BENONI: In a thrilling showdown at the U19 World Cup final, Australia emerged as the champions with a commanding 79-run win over India in Benoni on Sunday.

Opting to bat first, Australia, under the leadership of Hugh Weibgen, posted a formidable total of 253/7, setting a new record for the highest-ever score in a U19 World Cup final. Harjas Singh led the charge with a composed 55, well-supported by contributions from Weibgen, Harry Dixon, and Ollie Peak. India’s Raj Limbani starred with the ball, claiming three wickets for 38 runs.

In response, India faced early setbacks, losing key wickets within the initial 20 overs. Despite a spirited effort from Abhishek Murugan, who scored 42 runs, Australia’s bowlers, led by Mahli Beardman, were relentless in dismantling India’s batting lineup. Beardman and Raf MacMillan were instrumental in restricting India’s innings.

India didn’t get off to the best of starts and lost wickets at regular intervals, allowing Australia to hold the upper hand throughout the 2nd innings.

Australia’s Batting Against India

Australia’s innings saw a solid start from Harry Dixon, followed by crucial contributions from Harjas Singh and Ryan Hicks. Though India’s Naman Tiwari and Raj Limbani struck back with key wickets, Australia maintained their composure to surpass the 200-run mark.

With a comprehensive performance in batting, bowling, and fielding, Australia secured their third ICC final victory over India, adding to their previous successes in the World Test Championship and the U19 World Cup.
