BEIJING: Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Lin Jian said on Wednesday that China and Pakistan were all-weather strategic cooperative partners and iron-clad brothers, and no attempt to undermine cooperation between the two nations would succeed.
China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) was greatly contributing to the socioeconomic development of Pakistan, Lin Jian said during his regular press briefing in response to a query about a terrorist attack causing casualties of 5 Chinese citizens in northwest Pakistan.
Lin Jian strongly condemned the terrorist act. He expressed deep condolences over the loss of lives and extended sincere sympathies to the bereaved families.
Lin Jian mentioned that after the attack, the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs and its embassy in Islamabad immediately activated the emergency response mechanism and swiftly took emergency action. China engaged in close communication with Pakistan, asking to thoroughly probe the incident as soon as possible, hunt down the attackers, and bring them to justice, he added.
Lin Jian said that Pakistani side promised to thoroughly probe the incident and share the progress with China in a timely manner and further strengthen the security measures to ensure safety and security of Chinese personnel, institutions, and projects in Pakistan.
China firmly supports Pakistan
The spokesperson said that Beijing opposed all forms of terrorism, firmly supported Pakistan in fighting terrorism and will work with Islamabad with even stronger commitment to do everything possible to protect the safety and security of Chinese personnel, institutions, and projects in Pakistan.
