SARGODHA: An anti-terrorism court (ATC) in Sargodha on Tuesday ordered the removal of terrorism charges against Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader Ali Amin Gandapur.
A case was registered against the PTI leader on April 8 at Golra police station in Islamabad under section 7 of the anti-terrorism act (ATA).
Gandapur, a former federal minister, was arrested last week outside the Peshawar High Court’s D.I. Khan bench.
The ATC judge announced the verdict after the police produced Ali Amin. Police sought a 14-day extension in Gandapur’s physical remand in the checkpost attack case.
During the hearing, police said the vehicle that the former minister allegedly used in the attack had not been recovered yet. The lawyer of the PTI leader also presented his arguments.
Later, the court gave his reserved decision, dismissing the party leader’s terrorism accusations and turning him over to police on a one-day transit remand.
The court also asked the police to produce Gandapur before the Civil magistrate in Bakhtar within 24 hours.
