LAHORE: An anti-terrorism court (ATC) on Tuesday extended the interim bail for Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan until May 19 in two cases.
ATC Judge Ijaz Ahmad Buttar conducted the proceedings on the PTI chairman’s bail petitions. Despite the fact that his interim bail had expired, Imran Khan failed to appear in court for the proceedings. On the other hand, his counsel filed an exemption application and pleaded with the court to excuse his client from personal appearance for one day. The counsel asked the court to adjourn further proceedings until May 19 in order to advance final arguments in the case.
After hearing the counsel’s arguments, the court reserved its verdict on the exemption application for some time. Later, the court announced the reserved verdict and allowed the PTI chairman an exemption from personal appearance for one day.
Imran Khan and other party leaders charged with attacking police
The PTI chief and other party leaders and workers were charged with attacking police teams and burning official property and cars outside his Zaman Park residence, according to Racecourse Police. The cases were filed under different sections of the Pakistan Penal Code and Section 7 of the Anti-Terrorism Act of 1997.
Meanwhile, the court rejected the interim release of PTI leaders Farrukh Habib, Fawad Chaudhry, Hammad Azhar, and others for failing to appear in court.
