ISLAMABAD: Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting, Ataullah Tarar, underscored the importance of establishing mechanisms at both government-to-government and media-to-media levels to combat fake news surrounding the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC). This statement came during a meeting with Jiang Zaidong, the Ambassador of the People’s Republic of China.
During the meeting, the Ambassador extended congratulations to Ataullah Tarar for assuming the portfolio of the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting. Discussions encompassed topics such as the CPEC, Pakistan-China strategic relations, ongoing collaboration in the media and film sectors, and the China-Pakistan Information Corridor.
Ataullah Tarar emphasized the expansion of cooperation between the two nations in media fields and the creation of the Pakistan-China Information Corridor to combat misinformation regarding CPEC.
He highlighted the enduring friendship between Pakistan and China, spanning generations, and stressed the importance of educating the new generation about this historical bond. He noted that the China-Pakistan Information Corridor would play a crucial role in countering fake news about CPEC by leveraging digital connectivity and information exchange.
Additionally, discussions revolved around cooperation in the realms of film, culture, and the advancement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) agenda.
Tarar mentioned ongoing agreements between Pakistan’s official news agency, Associated Press of Pakistan, and China Media Group (CMG), as well as plans for film production and joint ventures in documentary production. The meeting underscored the commitment of both countries to strengthen bilateral ties across various sectors, foster cultural exchange, and promote sustainable development initiatives.
