DERA ISMAIL KHAN: At least 12 members of a single family, including women and a child, were killed and three others injured on Friday when a passenger coach plunged into a ravine at northwestern Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province.
The coach, traveling from Baluchistan’s Zhob district to Dera Ismail Khan in Pakhtunkhwa province lost its brakes on hilly roads and tumbled into the ravine, authorities said. The coach was carrying members of a single family, they said.
Rescue 1122 teams, assisted by local residents, reached the scene promptly. The injured were given first aid and transported to the District Headquarters Hospital, while seven bodies were recovered at the site. Locals brought five additional fatalities to the hospital.
Ehsan Khan, a spokesperson for Rescue 1122, confirmed the accident and said all injured were taken to medical facilities. Authorities said the accident was caused by brake failure, raising concerns over vehicle safety on the mountainous route connecting Baluchistan and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
