KARACHI: Former President and Pakistan Peoples Party Co-Chairman Asif Ali Zardari has welcomed the Chief Justice of Pakistan’s (CJP) advice for political parties to engage in talks and dialogue.
In a statement on Wednesday, the former President expressed his appreciation for the suggestion of the chief justice and asked all political parties to sit together and resolve the ongoing crisis in the country.
Political parties
The CJP gave advice for talks during the case hearing of the Punjab elections. During the hearing, the attorney general of Pakistan pleaded with the court that political parties should be given some time over the matter as the leadership of all parties was not present in the federal capital. In response, the chief justice emphasized the significance of a serious approach to the issue.
The CJP also called on PTI’s legal representative Faisal Chaudhry and asked regarding his party’s position towards talks. He highlighted the nation’s expectations from the CJP and said that when JI head Siraj ul Haq visited Zaman Park, Lahore, the next day, PTI Sindh’s chapter president was arrested.
The Chief Justice stressed that a level playing field could only be achieved if all political parties agreed on the election date. He warned that the court would get its decision executed if the dialogue process was not completed soon. He also issued directives to all political parties to involve their representatives in the hearing of the case.
