HANGZHOU: AIPS ASIA (International Sports Press Association Asia) recognized and celebrated the contributions of sports journalists who have dedicated their careers to covering five or more editions of the Asian Games. In a ceremony held at the Main Press Centre in Hangzhou, this remarkable achievement was acknowledged through the presentation of certificates to these accomplished journalists.
The event was graced by the presence of esteemed guests, with Korea’s former Olympian and International Olympic Committee (IOC) member, Seung Min Ryu, serving as the chief guest. Also in attendance were prominent figures from AIPS ASIA, including President Hee Don Jung, Vice President Mubarak Al Boanin, Secretary General Amjad Aziz Malik, Treasurer Niranjan Rajbansi, and Executive Committee member Nim Seong Fong.
Seung Min Ryu, who had represented his country in the Asian Games on two occasions, expressed his admiration for the sports journalists’ dedication and their invaluable contributions to the field. He considered the presentation of certificates as a well-deserved recognition of their unwavering commitment to covering sporting events. He also extended his heartfelt appreciation to all members of AIPS ASIA for organizing this special event in honor of sports journalists.
President Hee Don Jung shared the origins of this commendable initiative, which initially stemmed from the Qatar Sports Media Committee and its Vice President, Mubala Al Boanin. Despite the short notice, AIPS ASIA received nominations for over a hundred sports journalists, reflecting the regular involvement of journalists from various Asian countries in the coverage of Asian sports events. Hee Don Jung reaffirmed AIPS ASIA’s commitment to encouraging sports journalists and announced that certificates would continue to be awarded at Asian-level competitions in the future.
Subsequently, former Korean Olympian and IOC member Seung Min-Ryu, along with AIPS ASIA President Hee Don-Jung and Vice-President Mubarak Al-Boanin, personally presented certificates to the esteemed sports journalists who had achieved the remarkable milestone of covering five or more editions of the Asian Games.
