BEIJING: The Pakistani national men’s hockey team is in its final preparations to perform at its best during the 19th Asian Games in Hangzhou, China.
Shehnaz Sheikh, the Head Coach of Pakistan’s hockey team, spoke confidently about the team’s potential. He noted that although they understand that winning medals in China won’t be easy, they are determined to compete with honor.
Umar Bhutta, the captain of Pakistan’s hockey team, expressed his aspirations for a successful outcome in Hangzhou. He mentioned the gold medal Pakistan won in hockey at the 2010 Asian Games in China and expressed hope that the team would achieve medal-worthy success this year, bringing pride to the country.
The team also commended China’s exceptional organization of mega sporting events, citing the successful hosting of the Asian Games in 1990 in Beijing and 2010 in Guangzhou.
The Pakistani hockey team has been placed in Group A, alongside arch-rivals India, as well as Japan, Bangladesh, Singapore, and Uzbekistan, according to the schedule. The highly anticipated match between Pakistan and India is set for September 30.
While the Indian men’s hockey team has won the Asian Games twice, Pakistan boasts a remarkable eight gold medals at the continental event.
250 Pakistani Athletes Participating in Asian Games
Pakistan’s sports board has confirmed the participation of over 250 Pakistani athletes in the 19th Asian Games, commencing on September 23. This edition is poised to be the largest ever, featuring approximately 12,500 athletes from 45 countries and regions, competing in 40 sports, 61 disciplines, and 481 events.
