Asian Development Bank Appoints Safdar Parvez as Country Director in China

ISLAMABAD: The Asian Development Bank has appointed Safdar Parvez as its Country Director for China.

ADB said in a statement on Monday that Parvez has arrived in Beijing after his appointment last month. 

As Country Director, he will oversee the bank’s operations in China, including the implementation of the country partnership strategy that prioritizes sustainable and high-quality green development. The current CPS is central in reorienting the bank’s engagement in China as an upper-middle-income country. 

The newly appointed director said that he feels deeply honored to be leading the office in China and is looking forward to strengthening the bank’s long-term partnership with the government and other stakeholders.

Parvez has over 26 years of professional experience, including more than 20 years with ADB. He joined the bank in 2002 and has held senior posts, including Advisor in East Asia and Director for Regional Cooperation and Operations Coordination in Central and West Asia. He has played an important role in a number of corporate strategy reforms and initiatives at the bank.

Asian Development Bank operations in China

Asian Development Bank has been working with China since 1986. To date, it has committed 1160 public setor loans, grants and technical support totaling 41.3 billion dollars to China. –APP
