ISLAMABAD: The Asian Cricket Council (ACC) has officially announced the postponement of the ACC Women’s Emerging Teams Asia Cup 2025, which was initially set to commence on 6 June in Sri Lanka.

The decision comes in response to a formal request from Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) President Shammi Silva, who wrote to ACC President Mohsin Raza Naqvi, citing adverse weather conditions and rising health concerns due to a chikungunya outbreak in the region.

In a statement, ACC President Mohsin Naqvi reiterated the council’s commitment to women’s cricket.

“The ACC remains dedicated to creating opportunities for young women cricketers to develop their skills and compete at the highest level,” said Mohsin Raza Naqvi, President of the Asian Cricket Council.

“We recognise the strategic importance of this tournament in shaping the future of women’s cricket in Asia, and we will make every effort to reschedule the event at the earliest possible opportunity,” he added.

The ACC reiterated its continued commitment to promoting women’s cricket and supporting the development of emerging talent across the continent. Revised dates for the tournament will be announced in due course.

BCCI’s stance

Meanwhile, media speculation had suggested that India might withdraw from ACC tournaments due to ongoing cross-border tensions. However, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has firmly denied these reports.

Speaking to the Indian media, BCCI Secretary Devajit Saikia clarified the board’s stance on participation in ACC events, unequivocally rejecting any claims of a withdrawal.

“There has been no discussion or decision to pull out of any ACC tournament. Our current focus is on the Indian Premier League and the forthcoming series against England for both the men’s and women’s teams,” he stated.
