DUBAI: India broke multiple records during their commanding nine-wicket win over the United Arab Emirates (UAE) in the second match of the ACC Men’s T20 Asia Cup 2025 at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium on Wednesday.
India’s captain, Suryakumar Yadav, opted to bowl first—a decision that paid off handsomely as his bowling attack dismissed UAE for a mere 57 runs in 13.1 overs, their lowest total in T20 Internationals. Their previous lowest was 62 all out against Scotland last year.
The total of 57 was also the second-lowest in the history of the T20 Asia Cup, with only Hong Kong posting a lower score—38 all out against Pakistan in the 2022 edition of the tournament.
New record
In response, India chased down the modest target of 58 with ease, losing just one wicket and finishing the match with 93 balls to spare. This set a new record for the largest victory margin in terms of balls remaining in T20 Asia Cup history.
The previous record was also held by India, coincidentally against the UAE as well, when they secured a nine-wicket win with 59 balls remaining during the 2016 Asia Cup.
In the broader context of T20 Internationals, India’s emphatic win ranks as the second-largest victory by balls remaining by a full-member side. England hold the top spot, having defeated Oman in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024 with 101 balls to spare.
