ISLAMABAD: The Asian Cricket Council (ACC) on Saturday officially announced the schedule for the T20 Asia Cup 2025, confirming the tournament will take place in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) from September 9 to 28.

The eight-team tournament will feature a much-anticipated encounter between arch-rivals Pakistan and India on September 14.

ACC President and Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Chairman, Mohsin Naqvi, announced the schedule via social media platform X, stating that the Asia Cup would deliver an exciting lineup of matches.

The tournament had been under uncertainty due to recent tensions between India and Pakistan following the Pahalgam attack and India’s subsequent Operation Sindoor.

However, during the recent Annual General Meeting (AGM) of the ACC in Dhaka, the competition was given the green light.

Asia Cup 2025 will feature eight teams: Pakistan, India, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Afghanistan, Hong Kong, UAE, and Oman.

These teams have been divided into two groups. Group A comprises India, Pakistan, UAE, and Oman, while Group B includes Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Afghanistan, and Hong Kong.

The group stage will begin with Afghanistan taking on Hong Kong on 9 September.

India will play their opening match against UAE on 10 September, while Pakistan will begin their campaign against Oman on 12 September.

Pakistan will then face UAE on 17 September. If both Pakistan and India qualify for the Super Four stage, they could meet again on 21 September, and possibly in the final on 28 September.

Each team in the group stage will play the other three teams in their group once. The top two teams from each group will move on to the Super Four round, where each team will play against the other three. The top two teams from the Super Four will contest the final.

India, the defending champions of the 50-over Asia Cup 2023, and Sri Lanka, winners of the 2022 T20 edition, will both be looking to add another title to their records in this year’s T20 format tournament.
