ASEAN Summit Discusses Drug Control Cooperation

VIENTIANE: The capital city of Vientiane, Laos, hosted the eighth Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) ministerial summit on drug issues to explore cooperation against illegal drugs to realize a drug-free ASEAN.

ASEAN Ministerial Meeting

Lao National Radio reported that the meeting was chaired by Lao Deputy Prime Minister and Vilay Lakhamfong, Minister of Public Security.

The meeting covered the status of the ASEAN Work Plan on Securing Communities Against Illicit Drugs 2016–2025. It stressed the significance of addressing and minimizing the impact of emerging challenges resulting from the current illicit drug situation in the region while facilitating the exchange of information and promoting dialogue.

The meeting also reaffirmed the strong pledge among the ASEAN ministers to solve the drug issue to realize a drug-free ASEAN following the laws of each ASEAN member country.
