ASEAN Conference Highlights Significance of Harmony

BALI: Participants of the two-day ASEAN Conference ” ‘Khair Ummah” have highlighted the significance of the goodness of the Muslim nation and its inclusion of the values of harmony, tolerance, and moderation.

The Ministry of Islamic Affairs of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and the Ministry of Islamic Affairs of Indonesia in Bali arranged the conference. The conference concluded on Saturday.

In a statement, the participants said that the goodness of the Muslim nation would be reflected in its cooperation. They called for implementing the instructions of the Holy book of the Qur’an and the sayings and deeds of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH).

The participants also called for the rejection of prejudice, segregation, and differences. The statement also called for taking benefit from the latest technology to spread and explain Islam’s fundamental approach that shows its completeness, mercy, and rejection of extremism and violence, spreading research and studies in this regard. 

It added that there is a need to intensify efforts to combat the ideology of extremism in all its kinds and manifestations.

The participants of the ASEAN conference highlighted the importance of human, women, and child rights promoted by the Shariah law. They added that there is a need to enhance dialogue outside and inside of the Muslim world to achieve a consensus instead of differences.

ASEAN Conference and Saudi Arabia

The speakers also underscored the significance of highlighting the real profile of Islam as it is the religion of mercy, charity, justice, equality, and faithfulness. They also called for the exchange of programs, activities, and experiences related to moderation and tolerance in their countries. Saudi Arabia’s Minister of Islamic Affairs, Sheikh Dr. Abdul Latif bin Abdulaziz Al-Sheikh inaugurated the ASEAN Conference on Friday. 

As many as 130 personalities and representatives of religions from 10 countries in Southeast Asia attended the gathering.
