SRINAGAR, India: Former chief minister of the occupied region, Mehbooba Mufti and some other leaders have been placed under ‘house arrest’ on the fourth anniversary of the abrogation of Article 370 today (Saturday).

Jammu and Kashmir People’s Democratic Party of Mehbooba Mufti had sought permission from the BJP-installed administration to hold a seminar, but her request was declined.

Mufti took to Twitter to express her displeasure over the senior PDP leaders’ detention under house arrest. Many of her party members were illegally detained in different police stations. Mufti criticised the Indian government’s claims of normalcy while using brute force to suppress the sentiments of the people of the occupied region.

The Mehbooba-led party had sought permission to hold discussions with the general public to mark the anniversary of Article 370 and Article 35A abrogation. However, the permission was denied. Simultaneously, the BJP was allowed to hold an event at Jawahar Nagar Park and a rally from Nehru Park to the SKICC to “celebrate” the abrogation of the two Articles.

Mehbooba Mufti accused the BJP government of deceiving public opinion by giving a free run for celebrating the “illegal” abrogation of Article 370.
