ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan National Council of the Arts (PNCA) has embarked on an exciting new initiative called “Art for Therapy,” a series of monthly workshops aimed at promoting fine arts and highlighting their role in enhancing mental well-being in society.
As part of this endeavour, PNCA hosted a highly anticipated one-day clay workshop at the National Art Gallery on May 20, 2023. The workshop garnered significant participation, with over 50 attendees, including both children and adults.
The event offered a unique opportunity for participants to learn about clay work from a master in the field. The workshop commenced with an overview of different types of clays, tools, and techniques involved in sculpting.
Each participant gained insights into the fundamental techniques of creating low-relief clay sculptures and using the direct cast method in plaster of Paris. Participants displayed remarkable creativity while crafting patterns, objects, and designs on their relief sculptures.
Workshop introduces participants to characteristics of clay
Clay, being a versatile material with numerous applications, can be molded and manipulated in various ways, bringing ideas to life. The workshop successfully introduced participants to the characteristics of clay, its workability, and the different methods of shaping it. They received valuable tips on molding, casting, and achieving the best possible finish.
The workshop was led by Ms. Noor Fatima, a professional visual artist specializing in sculpture. A graduate of the National College of Arts in 2017, she has since made significant contributions to the field of fine arts. Ms. Fatima provided a demonstration before the workshop commenced and offered guidance to participants throughout the session.
The event garnered extensive media coverage, emphasizing the importance of the workshop’s focus on mental wellbeing through art. After the workshop, participants and media representatives were treated to refreshments, fostering a convivial atmosphere for further discussions.
