ISLAMABAD: A collaborative art and book exhibition ‘Food for Thought’ is started to attract art and book lovers in Islamabad till November 22. The exhibition is featuring a visual arts collection by the artist Anjum Alix Noon and Nilofer Afridi Qazi’s book ‘Culinary Tales of Balochistan’.
Qazi’s book Culinary Tales from Balochistan is represented as a journal of recipes, anecdotes, travels, places, folklore, history, people, hospitality, and memories. the artwork revolves around these interesting elements.
Speaking about his artwork, Anjum Alix Noon said that Qazi’s book was the inspiration that he used to display art in this show. Noon said that the initial approach was a visualization of an imaginary travelogue composed of maps, scribbled notes, and sketches and he analyzed these pieces and showed it in his visual artwork.

He said that the book took him to vast landscapes where people and places appeared as figments and memories. the abstractions combined old photos, Karez system (ancient irrigation system), Brdasht (goat’s shoulder bone) Dastarkhwan, and Dawat. It is a holistic artwork, using different mediums such as cyclic paints, linocut, Waste, and canvas.

It tells the story of how ideas are formed and developed in a very creative way. The author of the book Culinary Tales from Balochistan, Nilofer Qazi also described her book, saying it is a long journey and it tries to seek the beauty and complexity of her province Balochistan. The author said that the food stories she wrote in the book are the collection of oral history of the ancient culture makers.
