ABU DHABI: The leaders of the United Arab Emirates and Jordan said Arab states are not involved in the ongoing US-Israeli war with Iran and have instead been working to contain the crisis and prevent regional escalation, Arab News reported.

Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the United Arab Emirates, and King Abdullah II of Jordan condemned recent Iranian attacks targeting countries in the region, reiterating that Arab nations did not start or participate in the conflict that erupted on February 28.

The two leaders made the remarks during a meeting in Abu Dhabi on Monday, where they discussed the escalating military situation in the Middle East and its implications for regional security and stability, reports Arab News.

According to official Emirati media, the leaders said continued Iranian attacks on countries in the region represent a violation of sovereignty and international law and pose a threat to global peace and security.

They stressed that Gulf Cooperation Council states and other Arab countries have been working diplomatically to contain the crisis and prevent a broader regional confrontation.

The meeting also emphasised the urgent need to halt military escalation and prioritise dialogue and diplomacy as the best path to restoring stability in the region.

According to the Dubai Media Office, the meeting also addressed continued Iranian attacks targeting countries in the region, which the leaders said violate national sovereignty and international law and pose a threat to international peace and security.

King Abdullah, who was on a fraternal visit to the UAE, reaffirmed Jordan’s solidarity with the Emirates and its efforts to defend its sovereignty, security, and the safety of its people.

Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed also expressed the UAE’s solidarity with Jordan in confronting Iranian attacks targeting the country’s sovereignty and security.

The two leaders stressed the importance of an immediate halt to the escalating military actions and called for dialogue and diplomacy to resolve tensions and prevent further crises in the region.

They also exchanged greetings and best wishes ahead of the upcoming Eid al-Fitr, wishing continued stability, prosperity, and well-being for their countries and peoples.

The meeting was attended by Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and ruler of Dubai, and Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan, UAE Vice President, Deputy Prime Minister and chairman of the Presidential Court.

Both sides also reviewed the close ties between the UAE and Jordan and reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening cooperation and coordination in ways that serve their mutual interests and support development in both countries.

The leaders warned that continued escalation could threaten security and stability across the Middle East, as tensions rise following the outbreak of war between Iran and the United States and Israel.
