CAIRO: The Arab Parliament has strongly denounced the Israeli occupation’s decision to seize the headquarters of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) in east Jerusalem, turning it into a settlement that will include 144 housing units, the Saudi Press Agency (SPA) reported on Monday.
The Parliament termed this move as a flagrant violation of Palestinian rights and an infringement on the operations of global organizations dedicated to serving Palestinian refugees.
The Arab Parliament, in a statement, said that the decision represents a blatant breach of international law and United Nations resolutions. It called upon the international community to take prompt action to stop the continued violations against the Palestinian people and their institutions.
The parliament underlined the significance of respecting UNRWA’s critical role in delivering humanitarian services to Palestinian refugees. The Arab Parliament further added that this escalation is an attempt to undermine the Palestinian refugee issue and deny their right to return.
It reiterated its unwavering support for the Palestinian cause, advocating for the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people, including the right to self-determination and the establishment of an independent state with Jerusalem as its capital.
