Arab-Islamic Ministerial Committee Calls for Immediate Ceasefire in Gaza

JEDDAH: Saudi Minister for Foreign Affairs Prince Faisal bin Farhan bin Abdullah chaired a meeting of the Arab-Islamic Ministerial Committee in Geneva.

The meeting, held on Tuesday, was attended by representatives such as the President of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), Mirjana Spolijaric Iger, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates of the State of Palestine, Riyad Al-Maliki, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Indonesia, Retno Marsudi, and the Secretary-General of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), Mr. Hissein Brahim Taha. The ministerial committee was assigned by the Extraordinary Joint Arab-Islamic Summit. 

During the meeting, they discussed rapid events and serious developments in the Gaza Strip and aggression against unarmed civilians and civilian infrastructure. Emphasizing the need to protect Palestinian civilians, the committee called for an immediate ceasefire in the besieged Gaza Strip. Their aim was to provide relief for Gaza residents, address essential needs, and restore security and stability in the region.

Ministerial Committee Urges International Committee to Stop Violations of Law

Highlighting the urgency, the committee underscored the international community’s responsibility to halt grave violations of international law, particularly international humanitarian law. They condemned attacks on civilians, humanitarian workers, hospitals, and shelters by occupation forces, considering such actions as blatant violations of conventions like the Geneva Conventions.

The committee urged the international community to take swift and serious measures to secure relief corridors for delivering urgent humanitarian, food, and medical aid to Gaza. They emphasized the importance of enabling international organizations to operate without obstacles, ensuring their full protection. Moreover, the committee stressed the significance of investigating committed violations and holding the perpetrators accountable.
