WASHINGTON: Apple’s recent component orders show that the tech giant anticipates two-thirds of iPhone 16 sales to be from the two Pro models, a new report said.

This forecast is supported by the recent decision to expand the periscope lens, which was exclusive to the iPhone 15 Pro Max, to the smaller iPhone 16 Pro model as well. The orders for this specific component offer insight into Apple’s sales outlooks.

Typically, Apple spreads its component orders across multiple suppliers to mitigate risk as well as strengthen its bargaining power.  Industry estimates show that Apple’s production plan for the four models in the iPhone 16 series will reach around 90.1 million units by the end of the current year.

Of these 24.5 million units will be standard models, while the Pro and Pro Max models will account for 26.6 million units and 33.2 million units, respectively. This distribution underlines Apple’s hope that 67 per cent of sales will come from the two Pro models.

To ensure reliability, Apple is originally limiting production to LG Innotech. However, the firm is likely to bring on a second supplier, either Cowell or Foxconn, once they can meet Apple’s stringent quality and yield requirements.
