SRINAGAR: In a renewed plea for intervention, leaders and organizations associated with the Hurriyat movement have called upon UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres to play a pivotal role in resolving the long-standing Kashmir dispute.

The leaders emphasize the importance of aligning the resolution process with the UN Security Council’s resolutions and, equally crucially, with the genuine aspirations of the people of Jammu and Kashmir.

Prominent figures including Abdul Ahad Parra, acting chairman of the Jammu and Kashmir Muslim League, Mir Shahid Saleem, chairman of the United Peace Alliance, and Maulana Musaib Nadvi, chairman of the Jammu and Kashmir Youth Social Forum, among others, jointly conveyed their unwavering commitment to the Kashmiri people’s freedom struggle. They reiterated their collective determination to persist in their efforts until the Kashmir dispute is settled in accordance with the United Nations resolutions and the rightful wishes of the people of Jammu and Kashmir.

Strongly condemning the violation of fundamental rights of the Kashmiri populace, the leaders highlighted the recent demonstration of resilience as the people marked Indian Independence Day as a ‘Black Day’. Despite the harsh suppressive measures enforced by Indian security forces, the people’s symbolic defiance signifies a moral victory for the freedom-loving Kashmiri community.

Addressing the strategies adopted by Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s administration, the leaders contended that no amount of violence, arrests, or coercion can dampen the spirit of the people of Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK). They affirmed that the Kashmiri population stands united against the imposition of Hindutva ideologies and firmly stated their intent to liberate their homeland from Indian control.

The leaders unequivocally declared their solidarity in thwarting the BJP-led Hindutva agenda in the occupied territory. They expressed their unwavering belief that the dawn of freedom for IIOJK is imminent.

Drawing attention to the unyielding resilience displayed by the brave residents of Kashmir, who have confronted a formidable military presence, the leaders highlighted the frustration experienced by the one million-strong Indian forces. These forces have faced a resolute civilian population, ultimately underscoring the failure of India’s coercive tactics.

In their plea, the Hurriyat leaders appealed to the United Nations Council for Human Rights and other international human rights organizations to urgently address the deteriorating human rights situation in Jammu and Kashmir. They strongly condemned the employment of excessive force, repressive laws, and coercive measures by the Indian government to suppress the Kashmiri people’s legitimate aspirations for self-determination.

The statements put forth by the leaders demanded immediate action from the United Nations to halt the unchecked human rights abuses committed by the Indian occupation forces with impunity. They assert that the United Nations has a moral, political, and legal obligation to exert pressure on India to fulfill its commitments with regards to the United Nations Security Council resolutions. The primary objective is to facilitate a free and equitable plebiscite, a necessary step towards a peaceful resolution of the enduring Kashmir dispute.

The leaders also welcomed the statement made by Army Chief Asim Muneer regarding the resolution of the Jammu and Kashmir issue, underscoring the significance of dialogue and understanding as crucial factors in charting the path forward.
