ISLAMABAD: The All Parties Hurriyat Conference (APHC) has strongly criticized the ongoing detention of Hurriyat leaders, activists, and civilians in Indian Illegally-Occupied Jammu and Kashmir, describing it as a flagrant violation of human rights in the region.
According to reports from Kashmir Media Service, an APHC spokesperson expressed deep concern over the situation, highlighting that individuals are being detained under the guise of draconian laws such as the Public Safety Act (PSA) and the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA).
Under these laws, the Modi government and its armed forces have the authority to detain individuals on flimsy charges and hold them in custody for extended periods.
The APHC spokesperson stated that authorities are employing these laws recklessly and often ignore principles of justice and the rule of law. Detainees are repeatedly charged on fabricated grounds, using formal court orders to legitimize their continued detention, without due consideration for justice.
The spokesperson cited numerous examples of detained Hurriyat leaders and activists who have faced prolonged incarceration despite court rulings against their detention. The list includes prominent figures such as Masarrat Aalam Butt, Shabbir Ahmed Shah, Muhammad Yasin Malik, Aasiya Andrabi, and many others.
Expressing concern over the rising lawlessness in the territory, the APHC called upon international human rights organizations to take notice of the situation. They urged these organizations to leverage their influence and resources to secure the immediate release of all illegally detained Kashmiris held in various jails in India and Kashmir.
The situation in Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir has long been a subject of international scrutiny and concern, with human rights organizations advocating for the protection of the rights and freedoms of the region’s residents. —APP
