SRINAGAR: The All Parties Hurriyat Conference (APHC) strongly condemned the worsening human rights situation in Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK), particularly following the Indian government’s decision to revoke the territory’s special status in August 2019 under the Narendra Modi regime.

Advocate Abdul Rashid Minhas, APHC spokesperson, highlighted that since August 5, 2019, occupation forces have martyred 875 Kashmiris, injured over 2,400, and detained approximately 24,015 people.

In May alone, eight Kashmiris lost their lives, including three in alleged fake encounters or while in custody, while 703 youths were arrested and four were injured.

Minhas criticized the Indian government’s efforts to stifle freedom of expression and instill fear through draconian measures in the occupied territory.

He said that with nearly one million troops deployed, IIOJK has become one of the most heavily militarized zones globally.
