SRINAGAR: The All Parties Hurriyat Conference (APHC) has condemned the ongoing elections conducted by the BJP-led Indian extremist government in Indian illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJ&K), calling them a farce that cannot replace a United Nations-supported plebiscite to determine the region’s future.
According to Kashmir Media Service, APHC spokesman Advocate Abdul Rashid Minhas, in a statement from Srinagar, stressed the urgent need for a special UN envoy for Kashmir. He warned that the prolonged dispute, along with the rising Hindutva agendas of the BJP and RSS, poses an increasing threat in a nuclear-capable region.
“Any inadvertent spark could bring South Asia to the brink of nuclear disaster if the BJP’s Hindutva agenda remains unchecked,” he cautioned.

Minhas reaffirmed the APHC’s commitment to constructive dialogue involving India, Pakistan, and genuine representatives from Jammu and Kashmir. He labeled the current elections as irrelevant to the local population, stating, “UN resolutions 91 of 1951 and 122 of 1957 clearly indicate that these elections cannot substitute for a referendum or plebiscite in Kashmir.”
The APHC also underscored the oppressive atmosphere created by the presence of over one million Indian troops, who have effectively turned polling booths into prison-like environments.
“While elections are fundamental to democracy, in a place where basic human and religious rights are systematically violated, this process becomes utterly meaningless,” the statement concluded.
