SRINAGAR, Occupied Kashmir: The All Parties Hurriyat Conference (APHC) has issued a call for people in Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir, as well as around the world, to observe “Black Day” on October 27. This observance is aimed at raising global awareness about the urgency of resolving the Kashmir dispute, especially in light of Jammu and Kashmir’s proximity to three nuclear powers.

On the 27th of October in 1947, Indian troops invaded Jammu and Kashmir, occupying the region in clear violation of the Partition Plan for the Indian subcontinent and against the aspirations of the Kashmiri people.

Ghulam Ahmed Gulzar, the senior vice-chairman of the APHC, released a statement in Srinagar, appealing to all Kashmiris worldwide to mark October 27 as Black Day. The statement highlights that Kashmiris are demanding their promised right to self-determination through legitimate means, but India continues to suppress them with an iron hand. Kashmir has been transformed into a military garrison, with reports of disappearances, custodial killings, harassment, and torture becoming a grim daily routine.

For over four years, Kashmiris have endured the constant presence of one million heavily armed troops, who have subjected Kashmiri society to brutal and vengeful actions. Additionally, the Modi regime is determined to impose its Hindutva agenda on the region, leading to concerns about demographic changes.

The statement draws parallels between the Hindutva regime’s actions and the Israeli model, accusing it of committing a form of genocide against the Kashmiri people. This includes depriving them of their land, identity, resources, and culture.

Gulzar expressed solidarity with the Palestinian people and called on the international community to address the dire situation in Gaza caused by Israeli actions. He highlighted that Kashmir and Palestine represent two of the oldest unresolved issues on the UN agenda and warned of potential risks to global peace if the right to self-determination is not granted to the people of these regions. The expansionist agendas of Israel and India, he cautioned, pose a grave threat to world peace.

Meanwhile, posters have once again emerged in Srinagar and other areas of the territory, urging people to observe October 27 as Black Day, drawing attention to the historical events and ongoing struggles in the region.
