ISLAMABAD: A new medical study conducted in France has revealed that ants have the ability to smell cancer.
According to the University of Paris research, ants can identify the smell of cancer in urine. The ability of ants to detect the smell of urine has just been revealed, despite the fact that different cancer kinds have been known to alter the smell of urine in the past.
Diagnosis of cancer
Researchers claim that using ants to identify cancer in people could save time and money. He claimed that training ants to perform this task is simple, and they pick it up very quickly.
In the laboratory, 70 ants were used in this study, and studies were conducted on the urine of mice either shielded from cancer tumors or infected with them. The findings demonstrated that the ants could distinguish between animals with tumors and animals in good health.
‘’The ants have a very sensitive olfactory system, and we trained them to smell cancer,’’ the researchers said.
The researchers are now preparing to conduct this trial on humans. Even dogs can identify cancer by the smell of urine, according to earlier research reports, but this new study reveals that ants are more adept at this skill than dogs. The Journal of Proceedings of the Royal Society B: Biological Sciences published the study’s findings.
