ISLAMABAD: An anti-terrorism court in Islamabad Friday granted bail to former Punjab Chief Minister Pervez Elahi.
Elahi is in police custody for his alleged involvement in the attack on the Islamabad judicial complex in March this year, when PTI chairman Imran Khan appeared in a case.
ATC judge Abu al Hasnaat Zulqurnain granted bail to Elahi and asked him to furnish a bond of Rs 20,000.
The prosecutor told the judge that Elahi was arrested based on an ‘informer’s’ report. He added that the sections added to the FIR do not allow grant of bail.
After the prosecutor finished his arguments, Judge Zulqurnain began dictating the sentence in open court.
The judge ruled that Elahi was not even nominated in the FIR for the case in which he was arrested. He also said nothing came of the investigation despite Elahi being in custody for three days.
He then ordered that Elahi be released.
