ISLAMABAD: An anti-polio campaign will be launched in 39 districts across the country tomorrow (Monday).
A special anti-virus campaign will be carried out in nine districts of Punjab province from 13th February to 17th February. A spokesperson for the health ministry said that a campaign to administer polio drops to more than 6 million children is going to start.
According to Health Minister Abdul Qadir Patel, there will be an overall campaign in two districts of Punjab province, Faisalabad and Lahore where children will be vaccinated against the crippling disease. The minister said the anti-virus drive is being carried out in seven districts of South Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa, including Bannu, North Waziristan, DI Khan, Tank, Lakki Marwat, Upper South Waziristan and Lower South Waziristan.
Polio virus in neighbouring country
While expressing his concern over the existence of the virus in neighbouring country Afghanistan, he said that the virus could pose a serious threat to children residing on either side of the Pak-Afghan border. He emphasised that to prevent the future generation from permanent disability, all the concerned have to play their part in polio eradication. He also noted that this battle couldn’t be won without the cooperation of the parents. He urged the parents to ensure that their children receive polio drops during this ongoing anti-virus drive.
