PESHAWAR: The chief of an anti-militant group, along with his nephew, was gunned down in the northwest Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province on Thursday.
Meerza Khan, the head of a local peace committee, was on his way when unidentified assailants intercepted his vehicle in the Shin Kamar area of Tirah Valley in the Khyber district, police say.
The attackers opened indiscriminate fire on his vehicle, targeting the peace committee chief with a hail of bullets. As a result, he was killed on the spot.
His nephew, identified as Abdul Malik Khan, who was traveling with him, was also killed in the attack.

Police reported that the attackers escaped the scene before law enforcement could apprehend them. Both the uncle and nephew’s bodies were promptly transported to a hospital for the required medico-legal procedures.
An investigation has been initiated to apprehend those responsible for this heinous crime.
