ISLAMABAD: Anju, an Indian woman who crossed the border to marry her Facebook friend Nasrallah in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province of Pakistan, has fervently implored the Indian media to halt the spread of character-damaging reports that label her as a traitor.

In a video circulating on social media platforms, Anju, who now goes by the name Fatima after embracing Islam, categorically denied the allegations of betrayal towards her homeland and expressed her genuine emotions.

Addressing the controversy head-on, the 34-year-old Indian citizen conveyed her plea for understanding and compassion. “I am also a human being; I am not anyone’s enemy,” she asserted in the video, firmly rejecting the accusations that have surfaced.

Anju’s journey led her to embrace Islam and marry 29-year-old Nasrallah, a resident of KP’s Upper Dir district. Amidst the wave of attention and scrutiny, she expressed her dismay at the propaganda that has circulated within Indian media, tarnishing her reputation.

Anju Shares Love for Pakistan and India

Setting the record straight, Anju emphasized that her appreciation for Pakistan does not translate into a lack of love for her homeland, India. “I am only telling the truth,” she maintained, speaking candidly about her feelings towards both countries.

She also took the opportunity to highlight the shared cultural ties between India and Pakistan, asserting that both nations are part of the same land. “It’s not like I don’t love India. I love India and will go back to my country with my husband,” she affirmed, seeking to dispel any misconceptions.

Anju extended her praise to the people of Pakistan, describing them as “very good.” She humbly appealed to the Indian media to approach her story with a more positive and open perspective, urging them to cease the dissemination of baseless allegations.

Anju’s cross-border marriage has garnered significant attention, with the Pakistani authorities recently granting her a one-year visa extension. The interior ministry confirmed the extension, a testament to her ongoing journey and commitment to her newfound life.
