LOS ANGELES: Renowned Hollywood actress and humanitarian Angelina Jolie has once again voiced her support for Palestinians, describing Gaza as a “mass grave” in a social media post.

Taking to her Instagram story, Jolie reposted a message from Médecins Sans Frontières (Doctors Without Borders), which stated: “Gaza has become a mass grave for Palestinians and those trying to help them.”

The post further stated that Israeli forces have intensified attacks by air, land and sea, displacing civilians and systematically blocking humanitarian aid.

The post comes amid growing global concern over the humanitarian situation in Gaza.

Since October 7, 2023, more than 51,300 Palestinians—mostly women and children—have been killed in Israeli military operations, according to Gaza’s health authorities.

Far-right Israeli supporters reacted angrily on social media, accusing the Oscar-winning actress of spreading misinformation.

Jolie, however, has consistently spoken out against Israeli aggression and in support of Palestinian civilians.

She served for two decades with the UN Refugee Agency (UNHCR) as a goodwill ambassador and later as special envoy.

In November 2024, the International Criminal Court (ICC) issued arrest warrants for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and former Defence Minister Yoav Gallant on charges of war crimes and crimes against humanity in Gaza.

Meanwhile, Israel also faces genocide charges at the International Court of Justice (ICJ).

Jolie’s activism has not gone unnoticed in Hollywood. Despite her acclaimed performance in the Netflix-produced film Maria in August 2024, she was notably absent from this year’s Academy Awards Best Actress nominations.

Critics and supporters alike have speculated whether her outspoken political stance influenced the omission.

The film’s producer, Netflix, has also faced public scrutiny for removing the “Palestinian Stories” collection from its platform.

Activist group CODEPINK has called on supporters to urge Jolie to use her influence to press Netflix to reinstate the content.

“Let Angelina Jolie know you are grateful for her advocacy for Palestine,” a CODEPINK campaign message read. “Ask her to leverage her relationship with Netflix.”

Jolie has faced personal criticism as well. Her father, actor Jon Voight, publicly accused her of being “exposed to propaganda” and “influenced by antisemitic people”—remarks that were widely criticised as dismissive of her decades-long humanitarian work.

Supporters have rallied behind Jolie, praising her for continuing to speak out in defence of human rights.

“Any feeling person can empathise with the people of Palestine,” a statement from CODEPINK added. “Jolie’s courage deserves recognition.”
