MAKKAH: On Sunday, an Iranian pilgrim in his 60s underwent successful open-heart surgery at the Heart Health Centre at King Abdullah Medical City in Makkah, according to the Saudi Ministry of Health. His coronary arteries had become narrowed and blocked, causing an immediate heart attack.

Hatem Al-Masoudi, the official spokesperson for the Makkah Healthcare Cluster, told Arab News that the Iranian pilgrim had made a full recovery after receiving integrated medical treatments given by specialised medical personnel. He also said that all hospitals and other medical centres in the holy city and at other holy places are staffed around the clock and ready to assist pilgrims.

All workers strive for the honour of serving and caring for pilgrims during Hajj, he continued.

In addition, “it is also an opportunity for them to project the quality of their services and the sophistication in dealing with all aspects thanks to the accumulated experiences they have gained working during Hajj season for decades.”

The surgery, which the ministry claimed lasted five hours, was followed by the patient’s relocation to the intensive care unit. His health has improved to the point where he may return to his religious practises.

The highly qualified and experienced team at the Heart Health Centre at King Abdullah Medical City have earned a solid reputation for their work in this area. It is supported by the Saudi government and the Ministry of Health as part of the ongoing effort to protect the health and safety of everyone in the Kingdom.
