ISLAMABAD/WASHINGTON: King of Pop and American Singer-Songwriter Michael Jackson is returning to a big screen as a programme for the new biopic set is in motion.

Entertainment Weekly said that Lionsgate roped in Emancipation director Antoine Fuqua to helm the upcoming Jackson, about the journey and pop music of the superstar.

Bhoemian Rhapsody producer Graham King has behind the production, the Gladiator screenwriter John Logan is penning a screenplay. A film is set to start shooting in 2023, with no confirmation which is playing a titular role.

Fuqua said that the first films of my career were music videos, and I feel that combining film and music are the deep part of who I am.

“For me, there has been no artist with a power, the charisma, and the sheer musical genius of pop Michael. I was influenced to make pop music videos by watching his work the first Black artist to play in rotation on MTV.

Pop icon’s life

His music and those pictures are part of my worldview. The chance to tell his story on a screen alongside his music was irresistible.” The pop icon’s life was fraught with controversies, including severe allegations of child sexual abuse.

But Lionsgate determined the film could “explore all aspects of Jackson’s life.

The film could “give audiences a never-before-told and in-depth portrayal of the complicated man who became the King of Pop music.
