HONG KONG: Alibaba Group on Tuesday introduced a new enterprise-focused artificial intelligence platform, stepping up competition in China’s fast-growing AI agent market as interest in automated digital assistants continues to surge.

The platform, named Wukong, is designed to coordinate multiple AI agents within a single interface, enabling businesses to streamline complex operations.

It can perform tasks such as document editing, spreadsheet management, meeting transcription, and research workflows, all within one unified system. For now, access to Wukong is limited to invitation-only beta users.

The launch comes shortly after Alibaba announced a major internal restructuring, placing increased emphasis on artificial intelligence through its newly formed Alibaba Token Hub (ATH) division.

According to Reuters, Wukong is positioned as the flagship product of the Wukong Business Unit under this new structure, signaling Alibaba’s broader ambition to dominate the enterprise AI automation space.

Users will be able to access Wukong either as a standalone desktop application or via DingTalk, Alibaba’s workplace collaboration platform used by over 20 million organizations.

The company also plans to integrate the system with widely used communication tools such as Slack, Microsoft Teams, and WeChat, expanding its interoperability across business ecosystems.

Alibaba’s move comes amid a wave of enthusiasm around AI agents in China, driven in part by the rapid rise of OpenClaw, an open-source tool that has captured the attention of developers and enterprises alike.

The growing popularity of such tools has sparked a race among major tech firms to launch competing platforms.

Companies including ByteDance, Tencent, and AI startup Zhipu have already introduced similar solutions, intensifying competition in what is quickly becoming one of the most dynamic segments of the AI industry.

However, the rapid adoption of agent-based systems has also raised concerns, with regulators warning about potential security and data risks associated with widespread deployment.

As enterprises increasingly seek automation and efficiency, Alibaba’s Wukong platform represents a strategic push to secure a leading role in the evolving AI-driven workplace.
