SHANGHAI, China: Carlos Alcaraz, the newly crowned China Open champion, expressed his frustration over the tight tennis schedule, which left him no time to celebrate his victory before rushing to the Shanghai Masters.

After a grueling three-hour and 21-minute battle against world number one Jannik Sinner in Beijing, Alcaraz immediately faced the demands of a press conference in Shanghai the following day.

At just 21 years old, Alcaraz has been vocal about the challenges posed by the packed tennis calendar, previously suggesting it could “kill us.” While he acknowledged the difficulties, he adopted a more measured tone, stating, “The tennis schedule is so, so tight… we have to get used to it.”

Despite the whirlwind schedule, he is determined to maintain his performance, stating he will prepare diligently for his upcoming match against Shang Juncheng.

The Spaniard noted that he arrived in Shanghai late and had minimal rest but remains focused on his goal. The budding rivalry with Sinner and the looming presence of Novak Djokovic, who is also competing, adds an exciting layer to the tournament.
