ISLAMABAD: The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) has summoned Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chairman Imran Khan on May 18 in the Al-Qadir Trust case, which has now been titled the ‘National Crime Agency £190m Scandal’.

The accountability watchdog instructed Imran Khan to appear in a personal capacity and bring relevant documents related to the case.

Last week, Imran Khan, the former prime minister and PTI chairman, was arrested by the National Accountability Bureau in connection with the Al-Qadir Trust case.

He was taken into custody by Rangers personnel, acting on a NAB warrant, from the premises of the Islamabad High Court, where he had gone to seek bail in multiple cases.

Later, the Islamabad High Court barred authorities from arresting Imran Khan in all cases, including those undisclosed, registered across the country until May 15.

The Islamabad High Court also granted protective bail to Imran Khan in three terrorism cases registered against him in Lahore and prohibited authorities from arresting him until May 17 in any case registered in Islamabad after May 9.

The court also approved Imran’s protective bail in a case related to the death of a PTI worker during a party rally in Lahore earlier this year.

Al-Qadir Trust case against Imran Khan and Bushra Bibi

The NAB had launched an investigation against Imran Khan, his wife Bushra Bibi, and others in the Al-Qadir Trust case, alleging that they gained hundreds of canals of land in the name of Al Qadir University Trust, causing a loss of 190 million pounds to the national exchequer.

It is further claimed that the accused adjusted 190 million pounds, sent by Britain’s National Crime Agency (NCA) to the government, as per the charges.

In addition to summoning Imran Khan, the NAB has also summoned former SAPM on accountability Shahzad Akbar in the National Crime Agency £190m Scandal on May 22.

The notice issued to Shahzad Akbar directs him to bring relevant documents related to the case and mentions a questionnaire comprising 13 questions.

The Al-Qadir Trust case has seen significant developments with the NAB changing its title to ‘National Crime Agency £190m Scandal’. These recent summonses and investigations by NAB highlight the ongoing scrutiny of Imran Khan and others involved in the case.
