ISLAMABAD: Barrister Sultan Mahmood Chaudhry, the President of Azad Jammu Kashmir (AJK), has urged the European Union to take a proactive role in resolving the longstanding Kashmir issue.
During a meeting with European Union Ambassador Dr. Riina Kionka and Political Consul Rukiye Komurcu, Barrister Sultan emphasized the EU’s potential as a mediator between India and Pakistan for the peaceful resolution of the Kashmir conflict.
He highlighted the grave threat the unresolved dispute poses to peace and security in South Asia, warning of the potential for a nuclear conflict between the two neighboring countries.
Expressing concerns over the volatile situation in the region, the AJK President called for the appointment of a special EU representative on Kashmir to facilitate a peaceful resolution.
In another development, Barrister Sultan Mahmood will start a state-wide public outreach campaign starting from Mirpur on March 16. As part of this initiative, he is scheduled to participate in and address an Iftar dinner organized in his honor by the civil society at the Quaid-e-Azam International Sports Stadium in Mirpur.
