MUZAFFARABAD: Azad Jammu and Kashmir President Barrister Sultan Mahmood Chaudhry said on Monday that British MPs of Kashmir origin should raise the Kashmir issue in the British Parliament and increase pressure on India to stop its barbarianism and brutalities against the innocent people in Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir.

He expressed these views in a meeting with British MPs Tahir Ali and Imran Hussain. He said that Kashmiri British legislators should raise the issue of human rights violations in Indian-occupied Kashmir in the British Parliament and use their political and diplomatic influence to end violence and bloodshed in the restive region.

He said that the UK could play a considerable role in resolving the Kashmir problem.

Terming the Kashmir issue as the legacy of the British Empire, President Chaudhry said the Kashmir issue arose when the UK left the subcontinent soon after the end of its 200 years of rule.

He said that the unresolved problem remains pending on the United Nations agenda despite the passage of seventy-six years. It was high time that the world community, especially the UK, should play its role in helping solve the long-drawn dispute in accordance with the UNSC resolutions.

British MPs Condemn Indian move

British MPs condemned the Indian move to hold the G-20 conference in Srinagar on 22 May. They assured the President that the diaspora community in the UK would organise anti-India protests in Britain on that day to divert world attention towards the simmering situation in the valley.

They also invited President Chaudhry to visit the United Kingdom and British Parliament, which he accepted.
