Airlines Suspend Flights Amid Tension in Middle East

BEIRUT:  International airlines have suspended flights to the Middle East due to the ongoing tension in the region. According to media reports, the Algerian airline has suspended flights to and from Lebanon until next notice.

KLM had cancelled all flights to and from Tel Aviv until October 26. The Franco-Dutch group’s low-cost unit Transavia had also suspended flights to and from Tel Aviv until March 31, 2025, and flights to Amman and Beirut until November 3. Earlier, Air France said in a statement that it was going to suspend services to Beirut and Tel Aviv.

Hong Kong-based Cathay Pacific also cancelled all flights to Tel Aviv until March 27, 2025, local media reported. Delta Air Lines said in a statement that it would pause its flights between New York and Tel Aviv through December 31.

Easy Jet, the UK budget airline also stopped flying to and from Tel Aviv in April, adding that it will resume flights on March 30, 2025. IAG-owned Spanish low-cost carrier Vueling, and the Polish flag carrier also suspended flights to the region.

Earlier, Lufthansa Group, the German airline group also announced that it was suspending its flights to and from Tel Aviv and Tehran. It added that the flights to Beirut will remain suspended through September 30. Swiss International Air Lines, said it had also suspended flights to Beirut until the end of October.

In a statement, Lebanon’s Hezbollah chief Hassan Nasrallah on Thursday warned that Israel will receive “just punishment” for the waves of communications device blasts that killed around 37 people and wounded about 3,000 over two days in Lebanon.

Since October 7, Israel has launched a relentless bombardment offensive in Gaza killing more than 41,272 Palestinians, most of them civilians, according to the territory’s health ministry.
