KARACHI: After falling into a pond inside her enclosure, Noor Jehan, a 17-year-old elephant’s health further deteriorated at the Karachi Zoo.

According to the zoo management, the elephant reportedly fell into a concrete pond inside her cage on Thursday at 7:30 am. She was raised from the water with the help of a crane, ropes, and belts.

Noor Jehan has been suffering from serious bodily trauma for the past three months and is now a patient in intensive care. The elephant’s muscles have shrunk, her spine looks bent, and her legs look bent.

The international animal protection group Four Paws treated the elephant during a brief trip to Karachi. While there, they learned that she had just sustained an accident that had left her with internal bleeding and an abdominal hematoma.

Noor Jehan was not given the intensive care that Four Paws had advised the Karachi Zoo to provide her. Mahera Omar, the founder of the Pakistan Animal Welfare Society (PAWS), stated that the elephant has been receiving continuous drips from private veterinarians Dr Shehla and Dr. Otho.

Concerns regarding the Karachi Zoo’s management have been raised due to Noor Jehan’s deteriorating condition, with online users criticising the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation.
