TUNIS: Ahmed Hachani was appointed as new Prime Minister of Tunis by President Kais Saied who replaced Najla Bouden on Wednesday.

Najla Bouden was appointed by Kais Saied when he took over control in 2021 after dissolving the parliament sacking the then prime minister Hichem Mechichi.

Ahmed Hachani before taking over as prime minister worked as human resource director at Tunisia’s Central Bank.

Tunisia in West Africa is currently in dire economic crisis and President Saied has blamed officials repeatedly to serve the masses.

The dilapidated public service sector has frequent water and electricity breakdowns irking the public.

President Kais Saied after taking control in his oath taking ceremony vowed for preservation of the country with peace, stability and national dignity.

Najla Bouden was ousted as she failed to address the economic and social crisis in her tenure amid fears that Tunisia will fall back in its international payments. The economic woes resulted in many basic commodities of daily use getting vanished from the market like bread, sugar, rice and coffee.

Najla Bouden’s government secured a loan from International Monetary Fund amounting up to 1.9 billion dollars along with economic reform programme but President Kais Saeid refused the reforms citing reasons that removing the subsidies on food and energy sector will result in public unrest.
