ISLAMABAD: Former Pakistan batter Ahmed Shehzad has raised fresh concerns about Babar Azam’s future in T20 internationals following another modest outing in the ICC T20 World Cup 2026.

Shehzad suggested that the former captain may have reached a decisive moment in his career, questioning whether he can continue in the shortest format.

“Babar gone once again. Maybe it was his last dance to prove his worth in this format,” Ahmed Shehzad wrote.

Babar has struggled to make a major impact in the ongoing tournament. He scored 15 in Pakistan’s opener against the Netherlands before showing signs of rhythm with 46 off 32 balls against the USA.

High-stakes clash

However, he failed to convert his start into a substantial innings in the high-stakes clash against India.

Across six T20Is against India, the 31-year-old has scored 110 runs at an average of 22 and a strike rate of 123.59, registering one half-century.

During the latest encounter, Babar arrived at the crease with Pakistan reeling at 13-3 inside two overs. He was unable to steady the innings, scoring just five off seven deliveries before being dismissed by Axar Patel.

Pakistan were comprehensively beaten by India, suffering a 61-run defeat. Ishan Kishan led India’s charge with 77 off 40 balls, striking 10 fours and three sixes.

Chasing 176, Pakistan were bowled out for 114 in 18 overs, as India recorded their ninth win over Pakistan in T20 World Cup history.
