NEW YORK: After brutal strikes on Gaza and killing thousands of innocent civilians, Israel has demanded immediate resignation from United Nation Secretary-General Antonio Guterres after his support to Palestinians, Western media reported on Tuesday.

Israel’s ambassador to the United Nations said that Guterres is not the right choice for the United Nations Chief’s position and he should immediately resign.

Earlier, United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres denounced Israel’s actions in Gaza, citing alleged violations of international law, and called for an immediate ceasefire during a high-level session of the UN Security Council.

Meanwhile the situation in Gaza has escalated to unprecedented levels of devastation as Israeli airstrikes killed at least 704 Palestinians on Tuesday.

Medical facilities and humanitarian aid centers across the besieged territory have been forced to stop functioning due to extensive bombing damage and shortage of electricity, leaving the already vulnerable population in a risky state.

The increasing death toll from Israel’s relentless bombardment, the highest in the decades-long Israeli-Palestinian conflict, raises concerns of a greater humanitarian catastrophe in Gaza. Israeli forces are planning to launch a ground offensive into Gaza, further exacerbating the crisis.

Gaza’s 2.3 million people have been trapped amid escalating Israeli bombardment, running out of basic supplies such as food, water, and medicine since Israel sealed the territory. Israeli authorities have launched 400 airstrikes in the past 24 hours alone, following 320 strikes reported the previous day.

Witnesses and health officials have reported that most of these airstrikes targeted residential and commercial buildings, including areas in southern Gaza where civilians were asked to seek shelter.
