Islamabad: EU Commissioner for Migration and Home Affairs, Ylva Johansson stated that the Afghan population is in need of international protection. The mechanism is “not an issue today”.
Addressing a press conference along with State Minister for Foreign Affairs Hina Rabbani Khar in Islamabad said that Pakistan is an important and strategic partner for the European Union, ‘’we can work together with Pakistan in many fields.
She said that Pakistan’s services in counter-terrorism are commendable, Pakistan and the European Union are working together regarding refugees, and significant progress is also possible in counter-narcotics.
“Member states are in a position to decide how to protect their external borders and they are best placed to assess how to do that,” she said.
At the occasion, Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Hina Rabbani Khar said that Pakistan is willing to further promote cooperation with the European Union.
