PARIS: Afghan anti-Taliban leader Ahmad Massoud has ruled out any possibility of talks with Taliban to negotiate a peace settlement vowing to start guerrilla warfare.
During an interview with Western media in Paris the exiled leader of the National Resistance Front of Afghanistan (NRF), said that Taliban have to hold elections to achieve legitimacy.
Son of the former anti-Soviet mujahideen commander Ahmad Shah Massoud noted that the Taliban are refusing any talks as they want the world and the people of Afghanistan to just accept their rule.
NRF to launch guerrilla warfare
Massoud said the NRF had been forced to change tactics because it could not fight the Taliban conventionally.
He said last year they had decided to change their strategy and start guerrilla warfare against Talian adding that their number of fighters had increased from 1,200 to 4,000.
The 34-year-old, exiled leader said his fighters were not receiving any military assistance but were relying on their own stocks.
He rejected any proposal of returning to Afghanistan as part of a Taliban reintegration scheme. He said those who left Afghanistan have noble causes and principles.
Massoud went on to say if the Taliban announced elections the exiled Afghan leaders would return back.
It is to be noted that the last elections in Afghanistan were held under the US-backed administration which the Taliban toppled in August 2021.
Western governments do not formally recognize the Taliban administration, for its treatment of women in the country.
